Show Your Support for Autism Awareness

April is Autism Awareness month so show your support. Today (April 2) is World Wide Autism Awareness Day. I myself was a little unclear on exactly what Autism is so I looked it up. Autismspeaks.org is a fantastic resource. Here is their definition of what Autism is. "Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. They include autistic disorder, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome. With the May 2013 publication of the new DSM-5 diagnostic manual, these autism subtypes will be merged into one umbrella diagnosis of ASD.
ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art."

Now that we all know what Autism is here are some quick facts:

• Autism now affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys
• Autism prevalence figures are growing
• Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
• Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average
• Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases
• Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
• There is no medical detection or cure for autism

A Little Bit of Country....

Being from Nashville, country music has a very special place in my heart. I used to hate it, but I have come to terms with my hometowns heritage. I think this necklace is a perfect representation of Nashville. So many people come here with dreams of making it in the music industry - not just in performing. But there are song writers, producers, musicians and more. And Nashville has become much more than country music, but all kinds of music. What an amazing year it's been! When I founded Origami Owl in 2010 I had little idea that the company would be the success that it is today. At the time, I was 14 and started with a simple goal to earn enough money to buy a car for my 16th birthday. In the beginning I sold Living Lockets at home parties and events. As word spread about our unique jewelry line, we continually heard from women who wanted to know how they could bring Origami Owl to their family and friends. They were the inspiration behind what would be the future of our company. Today we proudly partner with thousands of women across the country who run their own Origami Owl businesses. Their success has been our motivation!

Our mission is the heart of our company. We are united in the desire:

What is Origami Owl?

I have created this blog to spread the world about the amazing product that is Origami Owl and also to showcase the fabulous lockets that will be made at the Jewelry Bars.


Origami Owl is a new and exciting jewelry line that allows people to customize their own living lockets.  Independent designers (that's me) walk each person through the process of creating their locket. You pick which locket (gold, silver or rose gold) and then you can fill it with charms that are specific and unique to what is important to you! So each locket will tell your story!

But Origami Owl is way more than living lockets. They also have a Tagged collection that is a new take on the military dog tags, but more to come on that later.
