In a tribute to Boston, we are all wearing our heart on our sleeves and having hope in our hearts. You can show your support for the city of Boston in many ways, but an easy way to do that is your wardrobe. Boston Strong.

Military Salute

As many of you know, my darling fiance is in the US Navy. He deployed aboard the USS Monterey on April and won't be home until November/December. I am incredibly proud of him and all that he has accomplished. For his deployment, I changed up the normal locket I wear to one for him. Here it is.

If you wanted to purchase this locket (I have Army, Marines and Air Force charms as well) it retails for $52 including the chain. Show Your Support for Autism Awareness

April is Autism Awareness month so show your support. Today (April 2) is World Wide Autism Awareness Day. I myself was a little unclear on exactly what Autism is so I looked it up. Autismspeaks.org is a fantastic resource. Here is their definition of what Autism is. "Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. They include autistic disorder, Rett syndrome, childhood disintegrative disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-not otherwise specified (PDD-NOS) and Asperger syndrome. With the May 2013 publication of the new DSM-5 diagnostic manual, these autism subtypes will be merged into one umbrella diagnosis of ASD.
ASD can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor coordination and attention and physical health issues such as sleep and gastrointestinal disturbances. Some persons with ASD excel in visual skills, music, math and art."

Now that we all know what Autism is here are some quick facts:

• Autism now affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys
• Autism prevalence figures are growing
• Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the U.S.
• Autism costs a family $60,000 a year on average
• Autism receives less than 5% of the research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases
• Boys are nearly five times more likely than girls to have autism
• There is no medical detection or cure for autism

 

I believe Autism is something people only hear about. So take the time to get educated and show your support of the kids with Autism and families affected by it. If you would like to learn more about Autism visit AutismSpeaks.org.

Equality for All

There are more ways to show your support for marriage equality than changing your profile picture! Wear your support! I hate to get political, but there should be equality for all. It shouldn't matter what your religious beliefs are, but rather support love. Everyone is entitled to their own belief and that is the glorious thing about this country and mine personally is for marriage equality!
